INTERACTION, is Orbita's key element of innovation. A combination of highly skillful artisans with todays technology. Interaction translated as the gesture of the user splitting the domes to create light. from a single ball to two rotating hemispheres, perfectly balanced on a pivotal mechanism that allows a 360 degrees rotation and 4 different light settings, a new multi light floor lamp.

Orbita Floor Lamp unique design with 3 different light intensity and a unique wicker lamp shade. This version manufactured from the unique Platano wood.

Orbita is a floor lamp manufactured from different sort of woods. The 2021 edition of the lamp saw the utilization of Elm. An old forgotten lumber pile dating more than hundred years. Originally used as the foundation for a flour mil in eastern Pennsylvania, was the brought in Washington for vessels manufacturing at the beginning of the century. Characterized by its imperfections, marks, cuts or recesses, tell us the story of its time.

The function of Orbita is determined by the interaction of the user. Orbita presents itself as a complete sphere when is OFF. Orbita's 360 rotating feature required the engineering of a pivotal core along with an easy-fit locking system for inspection. The light source is an interchangeable LED ring, powered by a circuit board able to conduct electricity during rotation as well as switch on/off. The moving nature of wood is the most challenging obstacle when creating a highly technical product. Being all the pieces reclaimed they needed an accurate inspection to determine the best cuts and a proper drying.

In a newly renovated loft in the center of Florence, we have created White Galactic, an Italian kitchen design like no other with futuristic cabinets and a bright white console. Custom made from Corian it features a curved working top that integrate the sink, the faucet and the lighting spots. The clean white surface blend perfectly with the afresco environment, leaving to history to tell the story.

Custom made from Corian it features a curved working top that integrate the sink, the faucet and the lighting spots. The clean white surface blend perfectly with the afresco environment, leaving to history to tell the story.

The manufacturing process took three months to complete. A major challenge was the bending of Corian, where the right temperature and template molds needed to be set in place in a short time frame.

To complement the space there were installed a series white kitchen cabinets following the same vibe, with eggshell white surfaced and concealed handles.

They also feature a series of LED light sensors making the whole set a truly futuristic kitchen design.

Black Haze Guitar

Black Haze Guitar // Florence, Italy 2009

As sound evolves, can the instruments evolve with it? This was the question answered in my thesis back in 2009. Visionary composers leading the way for a new and revolutionary sound changed the way music is conceived. Advances in technology made possible to manipulate bits and shape the music, and with it, their source. Black Haze is the result of a unstoppable process of evolution.

Spiral Wood

Spiral Wood // Florence, Italy 2008

One of the most challenging projects was to give shape to this spiral staircase. Made of solid wood, the spiral core is the result of a 3D modeling and a CNC milling process. Key for the success of this project was to conceive a structure that could be fully assembled at the work-site, due to the limited space of the historical building.

Douro Inspiration // Douro Valley, Portugal. 2019

Experiencing new places is at the core of my creativity. Quinta Pacheca is the perfect blend of taste and nature. Nothing like the endless vines along the Douro river to understand the intricate relationship between us and the landscape, as well as the perfect scenario to let imagination fly away, while sipping some delightful tawny porto.

Kenya Carving

Kenya Carving // Lamu Island, Kenya. 2010

Among my inspirational journeys, Lamu remains one of the most influential ones. The wood craft developed by these artisans is an example of skills and rooted traditions. Wood carving in particular is rich in details, intricate patterns decorate every door and hallway, reflecting the cultural richness, more than a dozen different tribes and two of the major religions, coexist in this island. The artisan comes from generations after generations of long learning, each of them adding their own style. A journey to the island is a journey to past, where Muslims and Christians have lived in harmony for centuries and centuries to come.

Douro Valley Openness

Doure Valley Openness

While sipping a 40 years old tawny Port overlooking the bloomed vine hills an the endless reflection on the river surrounding it, i realized the place i was staying was offering a great opportunity to talk about the close correlation between taste- design- love.

The warmth feeling and the minimal approach of its interiors, were the perfect blend on that renowned Valley and its world class wine history.

It is at Douro 41 that these comforting sensations of clarity were evoked. It sits on the shore of the Douro river, which gives name to the famous Douro valley region in Portugal.

The first thing that caught my attention was its architecture, these series of stacking cantilever structure that gracefully protrude from the hill, creating a perfect inclusion with the surrounding landscape, made the building feel so natural, as if it was the result of a million years of tectonic activity. Even thou the facility has ten floors, its arrangement as terraces bring an incredible sense of openness, creating voids in between, allowing natural light into its confines without constriction.

Wandering around the building you may feel like a kid discovering new places, ending up in different areas, some could be a new overlooking terrace a cinema or a small library.

The facade of the reception building has been covered using local stones, following traditional architecture of the area, giving its characteristic brownish-chalky color, gracefully blending with the blooming lush of surrounding plants. The river that has been here for thousands of years, remain the constant landscape’s keeper, its generous water, that permeate the valley, make possible the production of the finest vines for the pleasure of us new inhabitant.

The Hotel, with Its 30 plus bedrooms overlooking Douro river, are the perfect retreat when you are not enjoying the rest of the facility. The layout is functional maximizing the astonishing view and the color palette creates that soft and warm atmosphere, possible thanks to its comfy and functional furniture, as well as the functional headboard console. On each room the view is enhanced by floor to ceiling glazing allowing a 180 degrees making outside nature the highlight of every stay, guaranteeing enough privacy as well, very important point :)

Such rich experience would’t be possible experience without the exquisite attention to details. From art pieces to local crafted clay pots as well as the unique breakfast display.

In the common areas new materials are added to create a more sophisticated atmosphere, an interesting discover was to see the utilization of Marcel Breuer’s chair, Thonet S 32 Cantilever, up lifting a notch the elegance of the space.

After visiting the Douro Valley it was clear to me the intrinsic correlation between these three key life experiences, TASTE, the exiting response of your senses to new flavors and fragrances. DESIGN, the enjoyment of visual end physical experience, LOVE, the whole that connect us.

Keep track of my journeys, more exiting discoveries around the corner.

The doors of perception are open to those who dare.
